Mercado Pago Installments
If your brand is in Argentina and you collect payments through Mercado Pago, your buyers can pay for tickets in installments with a credit card. This guide explains which part of that Fanz handles and which part depends on your own Mercado Pago account.
What Fanz does
When a buyer goes to pay, Fanz builds the Mercado Pago checkout enabling up to 6 installments. That is the maximum offered in the Fanz ticket checkout and it cannot be changed from the dashboard.
Fanz does not define:
- Whether installments carry interest or not.
- How much each installment costs.
- Which cards or banks offer installments.
All of that is resolved by Mercado Pago based on the configuration of your account and the conditions of the buyer's card.
What the buyer sees
In the Mercado Pago checkout, when the buyer chooses to pay with a credit card:
- They select the card.
- They see the list of available installments (from 1 to 6, depending on their card).
- Next to each option, Mercado Pago shows the installment amount and whether it carries interest.
- They confirm the payment.
If the buyer pays with a debit card or with their Mercado Pago account balance, there are no installments: the payment happens in a single charge.
Note: If the buyer sees no installment options, most likely their card or bank does not offer them for that payment. This is not something that can be adjusted from Fanz.
Installments with or without interest
Whether installments are interest-free (the buyer pays the same total in 1 or 6 payments) or with interest (the total increases with the number of installments) depends exclusively on how your Mercado Pago account is configured.
| Setting | Who defines it | Where it is changed |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum number of installments offered (6) | Fanz | Cannot be changed |
| Installments with or without interest | You | In your Mercado Pago account |
| Financing cost of each installment | Mercado Pago | Based on your account and the buyer's card |
If you want to offer interest-free installments, enable them or change them, you must do it directly in your Mercado Pago account. Fanz has no option for this and cannot do it for you.
Note: Who absorbs the financing cost when you offer interest-free installments depends on the terms of your Mercado Pago account. Check that there before enabling them so your settlement holds no surprises.
