Reference chart and calibration wizard for seat maps
Upload a picture of your actual venue (an existing map, a floor plan, a photo of a blueprint) and place your seats on top of it — so your Fanz map looks and feels like the real space instead of a blank canvas.
Upload a reference image
From the seat map builder, the first time you open a new chart you'll see the new reference chart wizard. You can:
- Drag and drop a PNG, JPG, or WEBP of your venue, or click to pick a file
- Start blank if you don't have a reference — the builder works exactly as before
The image is shown at 40% opacity underneath your seats, so you can trace the real layout while still seeing what you've placed on top.
Calibration wizard
Before drawing seats, a 3-step wizard teaches Fanz how your reference image scales:
- Zoom in on a row — find an area of the reference where seats are clearly visible.
- Place a few dummy seats — click on at least 4 seats of the same row on the reference. The builder computes the real seat size and spacing from your clicks. If your clicks are too inconsistent you'll see a warning before you move on.
- Set the row spacing — drag the ghost row up/down until it lands on the next row of the reference.
After that, the Simple row and Multiple rows tools use the calibrated spacing automatically, so when you draw on top of the reference the seats land exactly where they should.
You can skip the wizard at any point if you prefer to keep the old behavior.
Control the reference from the right panel
Once calibrated, the right panel gains a new Reference chart section:
- Thumbnail of the uploaded image
- Visible checkbox to show or hide the reference on the canvas
- Start over to re-run the calibration (for example if the original image was wrong or too small)
- Reminder that holding Tab toggles the reference quickly while you work
Redesigned seat map editor
We also polished the editor itself while we were there:
- Fullscreen view when editing or creating a map — more canvas, less chrome
- New top toolbar with the map title, save status, undo/redo and copy/paste actions grouped together
- Floating zoom controls in the bottom-left of the canvas
- First-time tour that walks new organizers through the toolbar, tools, canvas, sidebar and reference chart
- Save-and-exit dialog when you try to leave with unsaved changes, so you can save right from the prompt instead of navigating twice
Preview thumbnails in the seat maps list
Every saved map now renders a small preview image next to its title — both in the Seat maps table and inside the location selector when creating or editing an event location. Existing maps get their thumbnail the next time you save them.
